CBD Types, Made Simple

Full spectrum, broad spectrum, or isolate?

All three can provide CBD. The difference is how much of the hemp plant stays along for the ride.

CBD labels can feel like alphabet soup. But the three main types are easy to understand once you know what is kept—and what is removed.

Three Types of CBD, One Main Difference

CBD comes from the hemp plant. Hemp also makes other natural compounds, including minor cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.

The words isolate, broad spectrum, and full spectrum tell you how much of that wider plant profile remains in the final extract.

CBD Isolate

CBD on its own

CBD isolate is highly purified CBD. Most other hemp compounds have been removed.

Broad Spectrum

More of the plant

Broad-spectrum CBD keeps several hemp compounds, but it is processed to remove THC.

Our Whole-Plant Pick

Full-spectrum hemp

Full-spectrum extract keeps CBD with a wider range of the hemp plant’s natural compounds, including trace THC.

What Is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is the simplest option. It is refined until nearly everything except CBD has been removed.

This gives you one main hemp compound in a very controlled form. It usually has little hemp taste and is easy to add to many products.

CBD isolate may appeal to someone who wants CBD without the wider hemp profile. The tradeoff is right in the name: it is isolated. You do not get the broader mix of compounds found in the plant.

Think of CBD isolate as one instrument playing alone.

It can still play the main part. It simply does not include the rest of the band.

What Is Broad-Spectrum CBD?

Broad-spectrum CBD sits in the middle.

It keeps CBD along with several other hemp compounds. It is then processed to remove THC.

This makes broad spectrum a useful choice for people who want more of the plant but wish to avoid THC. However, “THC-free” should never be accepted on trust alone. Products and lab results can vary, so it is important to check a current Certificate of Analysis.

Broad spectrum gives you more of hemp than isolate. But one more part of the original plant profile has been taken away.

What Is Full-Spectrum Hemp Extract?

Full-spectrum hemp extract keeps the widest range of naturally occurring hemp compounds.

CBD is still the leading cannabinoid. But it remains alongside other cannabinoids and plant compounds instead of being separated from them.

Full-spectrum hemp can also contain a trace amount of THC. In RELIEF, the full-spectrum extract is not made or marketed for intoxicating effects. Individual responses can still vary.

Researchers are still studying how hemp compounds may affect one another. This idea is often called the “entourage effect.” It is a theory that has shown that the compounds in hemp have a synergestic effect and work better when together. This is why we think it’s important to keep all of hemp’s ingredients in our formula.

What we can say is simple: full-spectrum extract offers more of the hemp plant than CBD isolate or a THC-removed broad-spectrum extract.

Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. Isolate

CBD Type Comparison

A quick guide to what each type contains

Feature CBD Isolate Broad Spectrum Full Spectrum Our Pick
CBD Yes Yes Yes
Other cannabinoids Usually removed Several may remain Wider natural profile
Terpenes and other plant compounds Usually removed Some may remain More may remain in the extract
THC Removed Processed to remove it May contain a trace amount
Plant profile Most narrow Middle ground Most complete
Good fit for People who want only CBD People seeking more compounds without intended THC People who want a whole-plant approach

So Which Type Is Best?

There is no perfect choice for every person.

Choose isolate If you want CBD in its most purified form and do not want the wider plant profile.
Choose broad spectrum If you want several hemp compounds but prefer a product made to remove THC.
Choose full spectrum If you want CBD as part of a more complete, whole-plant hemp extract.

For SomaLeaf RELIEF, full spectrum is the clear winner. RELIEF is built around whole-plant support, so keeping more of hemp’s natural profile makes the most sense for our formula.

Why RELIEF Uses Full Spectrum

More Than a CBD Number

CBD content matters. But we believe the extract around that CBD matters too.

Each serving of SomaLeaf RELIEF contains 70 mg of full-spectrum hemp oil extract. That extract provides 50 mg of CBD.

This means you know exactly how much CBD you are getting, while the formula keeps CBD within a wider hemp extract. We did not strip the ingredient down to CBD alone.

70 mg full-spectrum hemp oil extract
50 mg CBD per serving
1 mL one daily dropperful

Why We Made This Choice

  • It keeps CBD with other naturally occurring hemp compounds.
  • It supports our whole-plant approach.
  • It gives you a clearly labeled 50 mg of CBD per serving.
  • Every batch is tested for purity and potency.
  • A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis shows the measured cannabinoid profile.

Full-Spectrum Hemp Meets Concentrated Turmeric

RELIEF does more than provide full-spectrum hemp.

Each serving also contains 50 mg of turmeric extract standardized to 95% curcuminoids. The turmeric is prepared with SpeedTech® to create a fine, even spread of its active compounds throughout the oil-based formula.

CBD remains at home in the full-spectrum hemp oil extract. Turmeric gets focused delivery support from SpeedTech. Together, they create one simple formula for everyday comfort, movement, and recovery support.

  • 70 mg full-spectrum hemp oil extract
  • Provides 50 mg CBD
  • 50 mg concentrated turmeric extract
  • Turmeric standardized to 95% curcuminoids
  • SpeedTech delivery for the turmeric
  • One easy 1 mL dropperful

Why Settle for CBD Alone?

CBD isolate gives you one cannabinoid. Broad spectrum gives you more of the plant with THC removed. Full-spectrum hemp keeps the widest natural profile of the three.

That complete profile is why full spectrum is our choice for RELIEF.

With 70 mg of full-spectrum hemp oil extract providing 50 mg of CBD—plus concentrated SpeedTech turmeric—RELIEF is made for people who want more than a basic CBD oil.

A note about THC: Full-spectrum hemp may contain trace amounts of naturally occurring THC. This creates a risk of a positive drug test. Review the batch-specific Certificate of Analysis and consider avoiding full-spectrum products if you receive workplace or athletic drug testing.
